Brahms X Radiohead is a unique synthesis of Radiohead’s landmark album, OK Computer, with Johannes Brahms’ equally landmark Symphony No. 1

(January 3, 2024, St. Louis, MO) – Today, the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra announced details of a one-night-only special concert that intertwines two landmark pieces of music: Classical Era-composer Johannes Brahms’ Symphony No. 1 and OK Computer, the third studio album from six-time Grammy Award-winning English rock band Radiohead. Brahms X Radiohead is Saturday, February 24, at 7:30pm, at Stifel Theatre in downtown St. Louis. Tickets are on sale now and may be purchased at slso.org or by calling the Box Office at 314-534-1700.

Brahms X Radiohead is a symphonic synthesis of music by Radiohead and Brahms, composed and conducted by Steve Hackman for a full symphonic orchestra and three solo vocalists. Hackman has brought symphonic mash-ups with popular artists including Beyoncé, Coldplay, and Drake to many of the top orchestras in the country. The concert offers a reimagined experience of each work by seeing it through the lens of the other, exploring the explosive tension and deep pathos they have in common. Brahms’ 19th-century orchestral sound palette is used throughout, but woven in and superimposed are the well-known melodies of Radiohead.

OK Computer, with its depiction of a dystopian future and experimental and eclectic sound world, is often cited as one of the greatest albums of all time. Similarly, Brahms’ First Symphony, composed over the span of 14 years, launched the composer into international fame, positioned him as an heir to Beethoven in the classical music world, and left a profound impact on the art form.

This performance complements the SLSO’s portfolio of concerts in its 144th season, including classical favorites, chamber music, education and family concerts, film presentations, holiday concerts, and special events. While the orchestra’s home, Powell Hall, undergoes a transformative expansion and renovation, the orchestra is performing throughout the St. Louis region, most notably at UMSL’s Touhill Performing Arts Center and Stifel Theatre. Additional concerts in the 2023/2024 season will be announced at a later date.
